Engenharia e História se unem em parceria entre Poli e Museu Paulista pela preservação do patrimônio naval brasileiro

Uma equipe formada por grupos de pesquisa envolvendo docentes e alunos de graduação do Departamento de Engenharia Naval e Oceânica da Escola Politécnica (Poli) e do Museu Paulista (MP) da USP reconstruiu digitalmente uma embarcação, chamada de Canoão, utilizada na navegação fluvial que era praticada no Rio Tietê entre os anos de 1700 e 1800, processo conhecido pelos historiadores como navegação de monções. A reconstrução foi feita a partir da fotogrametria digital (tecnologia que extrai de fotografias formas, medidas e outras informações dos objetos nelas presentes) de uma fração remanescente da embarcação que integra o acervo do museu e que atualmente se encontra em Itu (SP), no Museu Republicano Convenção de Itu, que pertence ao MP .

O projeto é resultado de uma parceria estabelecida entre o professor Bernardo Andrade, do Departamento de Engenharia Naval e Oceânica da Poli, e a professora Maria Aparecida Menezes Borrego, do Departamento de Acervo e Curadoria do MP. Quatro alunos de graduação da Poli, um deles com bolsa concedida pela Associação de Engenheiros Politécnicos (AEP), e seis alunos orientados pela professora Maria Aparecida, três deles com bolsa do Programa Unificado de Bolsas de Estudo para Estudantes de Graduação (PUB) da USP, trabalharam na primeira etapa do projeto. O levantamento fotogramétrico contou com o apoio e colaboração da empresa Vtech Consulting.
