A USP foi agraciada com o Diploma de Honra ao Mérito da Engenharia da Marinha, em reconhecimento pelos relevantes serviços prestados à Engenharia da Marinha do Brasil. O diploma é destinado a militares e civis, não pertencentes ao Corpo de Engenheiros da Marinha, ou a instituições, que contribuíram para o desenvolvimento e a valorização da Engenharia da Marinha brasileira.

“Em nome de nossa universidade, tenho a honra de agradecer por tão nobre distinção. O profícuo relacionamento da USP com a Marinha do Brasil é motivo de justificado orgulho para toda a comunidade uspiana, que se empenha continuamente na busca pela excelência em suas atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão de serviços à sociedade”, afirmou o reitor Vahan Agopyan.

A cerimônia de entrega do diploma aconteceu no dia 22 de abril, no Centro Tecnológico da Marinha em São Paulo (CTMSP), em um evento em comemoração pelos 131 anos do Corpo de Engenheiros da Marinha e pelo Dia da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação da Marinha. Além do reitor, também foram agraciados o capitão de Mar e Guerra Fuzileiro Naval Calixto e o capitão de Mar e Guerra Engenheiro Naval Salvador, representando todos os homenageados deste ano.

“Apesar das dificuldades de um ano absolutamente atípico e singular, um projeto desenvolvido em conjunto por engenheiros da Marinha do Brasil e da Escola Politécnica da USP mostrou que mesmo em um cenário hostil, a engenharia pode desenvolver tecnologia para oferecer benefícios concretos para a sociedade brasileira. O projeto Inspire produziu, até o momento, aproximadamente 400 unidades de equipamento de suporte respiratório emergencial de baixo custo e fácil utilização, já entregues a diversos hospitais do Sistema Único de Saúde e das Forças Armadas”, afirmou o diretor de Desenvolvimento Nuclear da Marinha, vice-almirante Guilherme Dionizio Alves.

A cerimônia também contou com a presença do diretor do CTMSP, vice-almirante Paulo César Colmenero Lopes; do diretor do Centro de Desenvolvimento de Submarinos, contra-almirante Flávio Antoun Netto; do diretor do Centro de Coordenação de Estudos da Marinha em São Paulo, capitão de Mar e Guerra Paulo Henrique da Rocha; do vice-diretor da Escola Politécnica (Poli), Reinaldo Giudici; entre outros.

Parceria USP e Marinha

A parceria da Universidade com a Marinha remonta ao ano de 1956, quando a Marinha decidiu se associar a uma grande universidade para que suas pesquisas na área de ciência e tecnologia fossem conduzidas por uma instituição acadêmica civil.

A parceria resultou na criação do primeiro curso de Engenharia Naval do País, oferecido pela Poli. Ao todo, já foram formados mais de 500 oficiais engenheiros para a Marinha e cerca de 2 mil engenheiros navais civis.

As pesquisas desenvolvidas em conjunto resultaram na incorporação de inovações por parte da Marinha e de empresas que atuam no setor naval ou na região oceânica. Entre os avanços obtidos estão o desenvolvimento do primeiro computador brasileiro, o Patinho Feio, ainda no começo da década de 1970; a evolução na área de construção de reatores e segurança nuclear; o avanço em automação e controle promovido pelo desenvolvimento de inovações necessárias para as fragatas e corvetas; e o conhecimento produzido pelo Tanque de Provas Numérico (TPN) e sua estrutura de simulação.
